When I first listened to NW, I didn't bother with their personal lives/drama/etc and would just listen to the lyrics... they give you some interesting interpretations when you don't know the people behind the music.
I used to think Eva was about... now hear me out... a (female) fight dog. No idea why, but for the longest time I thought 'Eva' was a pooch's name, you know? I never heard it before in my life before this song.
"Mocked by man to depths of shame" -This made me think it was an animal, I thought 'man' referred to us as a species.
"Little girl with life ahead
For a memory of one kind word
She would stay among the beasts" -Kinda like WE, 'man', are the beasts, and she'd stay if her master/captor would be just even a little kinder
"We kill with her own loving heart" -REALLY made me think it was about a pet being forced to fight against her will. To this day I can't see this phrase as anything else.
"Eva flies away
Dreams the world far away" -Doggie escaped the house
"In this cruel children's game
There's no friend to call her name" -Cruel children's game = fighting dogs or any animals
Am I crazy or can it totally be about that if you wanted? What are your interpretations of NW songs?
